My youngest daughter was part of the Telluride Choral Society's Wintersing performances this year. It is a wonderful time for all ages! They do still have one performance left in Ouray next Sunday.

Tomorrow is the first day of the Snowboard World Cup. I snapped this photo last week during the construction of the course on the Misty Maiden ski run. Unfortunately all of the events fall on the days that I work, so this is probably the closest thing to a World Cup photo I will get this year.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I've been busy blogging on my Mountains Rule Blog about my trip to Yellowstone National Park. I'm finally finished, so take a look if you are interested! These photos are just a sample of what you will see. Above is the Grand Pristmatic Spring, the third largest hot spring in the world measuring 370 feet in diameter. The colors come from pigmented bacteria in the microbial mats around the pool. The temperature averages 160 degrees F and discharges 560 gallons of water a minute. It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen!

My daughter (left) and her friends were excited for the chance to meet Shailene Woodley (right) during the Telluride Film Festival. She plays George Clooney's daughter in his new film "The Descendants" and she also already had a good fan base in Telluride from the show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" in which she plays the character Amy.

The big Telluride Film Festival TBA this year was the Jennifer Garner comedy "Butter." Director Jim Field Smith was in a rush to get the film ready for the Toronto Film Festival and was panicked when he received a call that they wanted him here for the Telluride fest a week earlier. He had to finish the project and said he brought the film to Telluride in his carry on bag!

Ty Burrell from "Modern Family" plays Jennifer Garner's husband in "Butter." The movie is hilarious and is very different from any story lines I've seen. I don't think they have a release date yet for theaters.

I missed seeing George Clooney during the festival, but I do look forward to seeing "The Descendants."

Tilda Swinton is here to present her film, "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and also to receive a special tribute from the Telluride Film Festival. She is an Academy Award winning actress as a result of the George Clooney film "Michael Clayton." My daughter and her friends were happy to meet her since she is the White Witch in the "The Chronicles of Narnia" series. My favorite movie of hers was "The Beach" in which she played the island leader, Sal.

George Clooney is here! Need I say more? The Telluride Film Festival is doing a special tribute to George Clooney and he is also here presenting his new film "The Descendants." I'm not getting my hopes up of getting a chance to see him, but I did walk right by Jennifer Garner on Main Street this afternoon! Lots of big names in town for the festival, and also because right down the road this weekend is the big wedding of Ralph Lauren's son, David, to Lauren Bush. Keep your fingers crossed that I get some good photos!

The 2011-2012 Telluride school year started today. We got back from our vacation in Yellowstone just in time for the kids to sleep in their own beds for one night and then head to school. I'm not sure how much blogging I will do here in the next few days. Things are busy and we're still catching up on everything after camping for two weeks.

Corkscrew is a relatively easy Jeep trail that passes through Red Mountains 1 and 2, about five miles south of Ouray. The Red Mountains get their name from the reddish iron ore rocks that cover the surface.

These photos were taken by my friend Anthony Morabito near Animas Forks, the ghost town just up the road from Silverton. I had no idea there were moose this close to us! There were some moose sightings up Lizard Head Pass a couple of years ago, and also over in the Lake City and Creede area. Hopefully I'll see them sometime!

Last week for SkyWatch Friday I posted a photo of the beginning of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and today's photo is of the end. It was very cold and raining during the Punch Brothers and Mumford & Sons, and when the skies cleared we could see that it had indeed been snowing on the mountains and Ajax Peak was covered in white again despite the first day of summer being this week.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

The prairie dog has caused more controversy than any other animal in the town of Telluride. They have taken over a large part of the Valley Floor in the short time that the town has owned the land. Some say they are endangered, some just want to shoot them. I just like taking photos of them with their mouths open mid-chirp.
