Nah, these two marmots were just close together in an old pipe on the Valley Floor. Marmots are large ground squirrels that are always fun to see in the summertime in Colorado.

SkyWatch Friday: Never Summer

Last week for SkyWatch Friday I posted a photo of the beginning of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and today's photo is of the end. It was very cold and raining during the Punch Brothers and Mumford & Sons, and when the skies cleared we could see that it had indeed been snowing on the mountains and Ajax Peak was covered in white again despite the first day of summer being this week.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

The prairie dog has caused more controversy than any other animal in the town of Telluride. They have taken over a large part of the Valley Floor in the short time that the town has owned the land. Some say they are endangered, some just want to shoot them. I just like taking photos of them with their mouths open mid-chirp.

SkyWatch Friday: Telluride Bluegrass Festival

The 38th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival began yesterday and is off to a good start! The tickets sold out in record breaking time due to all of the great headliners. I really enjoyed Steve Earle and Sarah McLachlan last night.

This zoomed in photo shows a little more detail of Ingram Falls on the right, and that the snow is finally almost gone off of Ajax Peak, which still isn't green! That little flag is the Colorado State flag, flying backwards.

Too Wild to Play In

Yesterday's photo was of a calm section of the San Miguel River. These two photos are the wild section of the river seen from the Keystone Gorge Trail. I heard that one man has successfully kayaked this section, but it looks impossible when standing next to it!

Ute Indian Dancers

The three dancers were back this year for the Telluride Heritage Festival. The hoop dancer is Charles Denny, the World Champion Hoop Dancer for three years in a row.

The Return of Baked in Telluride

Baked in Telluride is back!! Just in time for the Bluegrass Festival which starts this Thursday.

It's pretty different inside compared to the old building. Much bigger and brighter!

Telluride Wild West Fest and Heritage Festival

This weekend wraps up the Telluride West Fest and is also the young festival known as Telluride Heritage. Sadly there was no re-enactment of the Butch Cassidy bank robbery this year, not sure why.

My favorite balloon is always the Koshare from Gallup, New Mexico. Koshares are Pueblo Clowns, jester or trickster in the Kachina religion practiced by the Pueblo Indians of the southwestern USA.

Morning Launch of the Balloon Festival

The hot air balloons were able to launch from Town Park to the Valley Floor on Sunday morning. It was too early for the sun to be bright, plus our hazy skies are from the wildfires in New Mexico. Still a super fun morning!

Last night the wind died down just in time for the balloons to inflate!! Super excited they were able to do this two years in a row!

We camped with my daughter's fourth grade class this week up at Colorado National Monument. I think my lizard picture is my favorite out of all of the photos I took! They are just so cool!

Finally Spring!!

I really didn't mean to take another break from blogging, but I've been busy with work, end of the school year stuff with the kids, then had blogger and internet problems. But look--in the meantime it finally turned to spring in Telluride!
