One of my favorite animals to see in the summer is the yellow-bellied marmot. They are essentially large ground squirrels that live above 6,500 feet in elevation and hibernate in the winter.

The Drepung Monks came all the way from Tibet for Sunday morning at the Bluegrass Festival. The Drepung monastery was one of only a dozen monasteries to survive the Chinese Communist takeover of Tibet in 1959.

SkyWatch Friday

There wasn't a cloud in the sky when we drove over Ophir Pass last week. There was just a little bit of snow near the summit! That's my daughter and mother-in-law on the road, and my husband is on top of the snow on the right.

Bluegrass Fun for Kids

On the last day of the Bluegrass Festival there is a childrens' parade. The kids can dress up, have their faces painted, and then carry flags or parasols and march around the Bluegrass crowd following the clowns from Living Folklore.

This was Brandi Carilile's first time to perform at the Bluegrass Festival, and she said she had always dreamed of playing here. I was so happy that she sang "The Story," one of my favorite songs ever.

Something's Missing

...and it's not the S with the S². The Bluegrass Festival starts today and normally thousands of people that come to the festival rely heavily on Baked in Telluride for their coffee, treats and meals. It will be missed more than ever this weekend!

The Ute Indians are a big part of Telluride's Heritage since they were here first. The dancers were amazing! The first one is a champion hoop dancer.

Heritage Festival and the Wild West Fest

This week has been the Wild West Fest and then the weekend brought the second annual Heritage Festival. Saturday at noon there was a re-enactment of Butch Cassidy's first bank robbery at the original location of the San Miguel Valley Bank. The cold rain and hail didn't stop the fun!

SkyWatch Friday

All week I have featured photos from last weekend's Balloon Festival. The lighting isn't great when they fly since they air up and launch at 6:15 a.m., but I enjoyed it! In this second photo I even caught the moon on the right of the balloon.

It was a ton of fun to watch the balloons air up on Main Street last Saturday night. My daughter is on the left holding a pink balloon. It was a great way to find her in the crowd!

Main Street GLO

The weather and wind conditions have been perfect this weekend for the Telluride Balloon Festival. Not only were the balloons able to fly Saturday morning, the balloons were also able to be aired up for the Main Street GLO last night. The street was packed with people admiring the balloons. We use any excuse to play in the street in Telluride!

Someone is Watching

This weekend is the Telluride Balloon Festival and my favorite balloon is back! This morning the balloons flew from Town Park to the Valley Floor or in the street, wherever they could find a safe spot to land. I'm hoping for them to be able to air up for the night glo tonight.

Theme Day: Funny Signs

This month's City Daily Photo Theme Day is "Funny Signs." I took this photo just over the mountains from Telluride in Yankee Boy Basin in early June 2008 when there was 6 to 7 feet of snow still melting. I do love to take photos of funny signs and I have a few more from my blog in the past if you click on "Signs" under my labels. Have a happy June!
