Red Mountains

One of my favorite places to be is at the top of Imogene Pass looking down at Red Mountains 1, 2 and 3. A lot of people are scared just to drive Red Mountain Pass (the Million Dollar Highway, 550) which is way, way below us from here! The mountains are red from iron oxide.

Count me among those "too afraid." I just can't get past my fear of heights! But I know that I miss some beautiful views, such as this.

BTW, our daughter went rafting in Cotopaxi, on the Arkansas, got caught in some really rough rapids and tossed in the river. She thought she was going to die - a rough experience. She was never going rafting again. Hah! She wrote the other day and said they're planning another ride down the Arkansas, but in a less "hectic" place.

Oh boy! Being a worried parent never ends!

Your last couple of posts have persuaded me that I need to visit your part of the state sooner rather than later. I've been along the Million Dollar Highway past Ouray to the top of the pass, but never any further. It looks beautiful!

People in North Dakota would say they were afraid they would fall off the mountain! I love that Highway.
