White on Black Friday
I got away from the computer long enough to do a little bit of skiing on Black Friday. I did do a little on-line shopping, though, and bought a computer desk for $120 cheaper than it was when I started to order it two days ago! Happy Christmas shopping everyone! Hope you find a lot of good deals. Christmas will be here before we know it.Friday, November 27, 2009

Thanksgiving and Opening Day
This spot will be buzzing with skiers today!! I predict most Telluriders will be thankful for the opening of ski season this Thanksgiving, not to mention the excitement of hopping on lift 4 and even the opportunity to get over to lifts 5 and 6 in order to ski See Forever! And let's not forget the Meadows!Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Get Ready
The shops in Telluride are ready and waiting to help everyone get ready to ski. While all of our shops are nice, we do tend to shop the most at the Paragon stores.

Sheridan Opera House Restoration Project
The most recent phase of the Sheridan Opera House is nearing completion. As of a couple of weeks ago about $6,000 is needed to finish the stenciling project. The stenciling project was made possible after an exciting discovery of photos discovered in 2002.

For more information about the restoration, please visit the Sheridan Opera House website. There is also a great article at the website of another Telluride local, Telluride Inside…and Out.Friday, November 20, 2009

My World Tuesday: KOTO Ski Swap
This weekend was the annual KOTO Ski Swap where you can buy or sell winter items and part of the profit benefits KOTO, which is our local radio station.
I went in honestly thinking I wouldn't buy anything, just take a few pictures, but I found ski pants at a reasonable price that were exactly what I had been looking for, so I couldn't resist! Keep in mind these photos are a little dark because the sale is held in the parking garage under the library.
Spirits were high at the sale with the large amount of snowfall that was coming down! It was the last chance to buy discounted passes from Telluride Ski Resort. I wonder how many they sold?
I neglected to get a photo of the actual skis that were for sale outside due to the crowd of people going in and out of the gated area, but you get the idea from these photos that you could stock up on everything you need for ski season at the KOTO Ski Swap! It's My World Tuesday! 17 Days to Ski Season?
The past few days have been too warm for snow making, and it looks like we'll have a few more warm days this week. We need some freezing cold snowy weather! The good news is that the Telluride Airport is open again. You may be able to see it if you enlarge the photo. It is kind of in the center in the distance.Sunday, November 8, 2009

SkyWatch Friday: Clear Blue Sky and Lingering Snow
A lot of last week's snow has melted away with this week's warm sunny days. You can see the ski area on the right where the ski runs are holding some snow. Ajax Peak is in the center, which is the prominent mountain in Telluride photos from town.I'm not going to complain about the sun we've had this week, though! I don't like it when it gets dark at 5:30 p.m.

Theme Day: Doorways
Obviously these doorways are not in Telluride, but a couple of hours away in Mesa Verde National Park. For the City Daily Photo Theme Day, "Doorways," I chose photos of the doors in the cliff dwellings built by Ancestral Puebloans between A.D. 550 to 1300.
This cliff dwelling is appropriately named the Balcony House. The balcony in this photo is amazingly intact from so long ago.
