My World Tuesday: WIlson Meadows

Yesterday we had a family hike to the Wilson Meadows. The trail begins at the summit of Lizard Head Pass, just up highway 145 from Telluride. My husband accidentally took the second photo when he was taking some photos of me, but I liked how unusual it turned out! Only a few wildflowers have bloomed so far, but I'm sure they will be spectacular sometime next month. Wilson Meadows is at about 11,000 feet in elevation with an excellent view of Lizard Head Peak.

I also wanted to share a link to a photo on a blog that I follow belonging to the Mountain Photographer who lives in Ouray, Colorado. He recently took a photo of Telluride from an airplane. To see exactly what our box canyon is like, you can view the photo HERE.

Telluride Chicago-Style

The Diggity Dogs stand is a local's favorite stop for a Chicago-style hot dog. I like to eat the Frito pie at their Mountain Village location for lunch when we're skiing.

Connect Four Anyone?

There was a HUGE Connect Four game at the Bluegrass Festival. My youngest daughter had to have help to reach!!

SkyWatch Friday: High in our Mountains

Earlier this week we spent some serious time in our Jeep on several trails which included Corkscrew Gulch, Hurricane Pass, California Pass/Gulch and Placer Gulch. We had a great time despite the rainy weather. The highest elevation we reached was on California Pass at 12,930 feet above sea level.

Most of my time spent at the Bluegrass Festival was doing activities with my kids. These are the flags that are carried in the children's parade.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival

Our town of 2,000 was a wee bit more crowded over the weekend for our biggest festival of all. Telluride makes a lot of changes to accommodate everyone during this four day event.

Free Bluegrass

This weekend is our biggest festival of the year, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. There are bluegrass performances being held in Elks Park for free, while the main events are going on in Town Park. Today will be my only day to attend the festival with many more photos! Our town of 2,000 can swell to around 20,000 during this festival.

Lizard Head Peak, viewed from highway 145, is a volcanic plug with an elevation of 13,113 feet above sea level. It is also known as one of Colorado's most difficult climbs.

My World Tuesday: Festival After Festival

The summer festivals are upon us!! The Telluride Heritage Festival day during the Wild West Fest had fun activities for kids such as make your own tipi and tug-of-war.

Stagecoaches aren't something we see everyday in the streets of Telluride! My daughter and I even had a ride in one during the Telluride Heritage Festival.

Butch Cassidy Reenactment

Yesterday at high noon a Butch Cassidy bank robbery reenactment was held in front of Appaloosa Trading Company, the original site of the San Miguel Valley Bank. Butch's first bank robbery was in Telluride on June 24, 1889. The reenactment took place as part of the Telluride Heritage Festival, which teamed up Saturday with the Wild West Fest.

I caught some interesting sky photos during the Balloon Festival last weekend. This first one was during the "fire show" the hot air balloon pilots put on since it was too windy to inflate for the night glow.

This was taken early Sunday morning when the wind wasn't good for launching the balloons, but the pilots still inflated the balloons for us!

Telluride Balloon Festival

The Balloon Festival also occurred over the weekend in conjunction with the Jazz Festival. The wind did not cooperate for launching again this year, but there is no room for error in our box canyon! We did enjoy seeing the balloons inflate early Sunday morning.

On the Street

The Telluride Jazz Festival was this weekend, kicking off the first of the summer music festivals. Jazz could be enjoyed in Town Park, as well as all over town and in Mountain Village. Pictured above is Felix y los Gatos.

Pinzgauers

A few of the 4-wheeling trails are open and ready for these Pinzgauers. They look like so much fun, but we've never taken one of their tours since we have two Jeeps of our own that can go anywhere around here.

Telluride Valley Floor Rules

With the $50 million dollar purchase of a 572 acre plot of land, there has to be some rules. No matter which side people took in the battle over the Valley Floor, I think everyone can agree it is an amazing story of conservation. SkyWatch Friday: This Week's Cloudy Skies

Our monsoon season generally starts sometime in July, although it seems to have started really early this year! It has been raining almost daily. I've been caught out in the rain more than once this week.

These dark clouds chased me home while walking on the river trail the other day. The clouds won.
