SkyWatch Friday: 2009 and 1982

I posted a photo from 1982 back a few months ago and thought I would try to find the same spot to re-create it in 2009. My dad couldn't remember exactly where he was when he took the old photo, but I tried to get as close to the spot as I could. I was trying to use Ajax Peak and the elementary school as focus points, but the elementary school is hidden by trees now! So I was somewhere around the area where I stood when I was 10 and visiting Telluride on a family vacation.

It looks like we visited on a cloudy and overcast day in 1982, and this week the sky has been overcast and very hazy due to the wildfires in California.

To see more beautiful skies all over the world, please visit SkyWatch Friday.

Quite a difference! The mountain doesn't change much, however.

It looks like you got pretty darn close to the same spot. I like then & now shots to see just how much everything changes! Neato

You did a great job recreating the shot Lisa. Looks like everything changed except the mountains!

How fun! Interesting to see the changes to the landscape, but the skies are still beautiful no matter how old they are!

Good idea. It did not change that much. Nice to see that there is still a lot of "green" on the new one

That's marvelous to be able to see the changes! What a great idea and to be able to do it, too! Then or now, however, it's still lovely!

Have a great weekend!

You got the same mountain and the same angle. Beautiful, no matter the year.

Looks like you succeeded in finding the same spot. You were there on vacation, now you live there. Funny how things in life work.

Looks like Telluride has grown a bit since 1982. Nice to have those memories. I'd say you found the spot. Wonder if that's what caused you to move there?

I always like it when the photos tell a story

I remember the previous photo! No all that many changes really...well, the streets are paved...

Nice images, Lisa!

I love these comparison shots. The newer photo looks lush, maybe because the trees grew....and I think I see a phone booth in the old shot...but that mountain speaks volumes in both ...

I love your blog. I have done the same thing in different places in Colorado. What is funny is that my husband's family have visited these places as well. I need to go through their pics and see if they stood in the same places.

I have only been to Telluride once and fell in love with it immediately. My dream is to some day live there.

Thank you for having this blog. Love all your pictures. It truly brightens my day.

Hey, Brenda! I'm from Oklahoma! I've only lived here since April 2007. Before that, I lived in Sand Springs my whole life.

Hi! I used to live in Telluride as a child, from 1980 to 1987. That old picture brings back a lot of memories for me! At that time the elementary school in the distance was just called "the old high school" and I remember thinking it was a little spooky. The elementary school was just out of the picture to the left and I can remember using that blue phone booth to make phone calls (for a dime!).

Thanks for posting that!
