During the summer we spend quite a bit of time in and around the town of Silverton, which is just over the mountains from us and accessed via shortcut over Ophir Pass. Silverton is a former silver mining camp and has a population of about 525 and an elevation of 9,305 feet above sea level. This week we camped outside of Silverton at the ghost town of Animas Forks and drove several of the Jeep trails and did a little bit of hiking.

Silverton Visitors Center.
