SkyWatch Friday and Theme Day

I completely forgot to plan for this month's theme day of "Shadows" and didn't realize I would need to combine it with SkyWatch Friday. What a challenge! I selected a photo I liked from last summer when my Jeep was in the shadow of the snow on Black Bear Pass, which is a challenging 4-wheel drive only road that starts on highway 550 between Silverton and Ouray and ends at Telluride's Bridal Veil Falls (one way only). If you are shocked at the tall wall of snow present at the end of July, I should mention that I end up in the snow at least once a month year-round, whether I'm hiking, Jeeping or skiing.

That's a perfect combination post Lisa! I tried to do that but ended up having to post 2 pictures.

I want to poke the wall! The day looks so warm otherwise. Great photo.

I lived for a short while outside of Vail and never got used to it snowing every month of the year. Nice combo.

How unusual to use shadows from snow. This was a challenging photo to capture, with the contrast between the shadow and the intense white of the snow and clouds.

Love the combination of snow, bare ground and blue skies. It is so refreshing. Makes you want to get out and go hiking. Beautiful shot. Thanks for sharing.

Lisa, you managed to get a great photo for this '2 in 1' day post! Impressive snow/ice(?) wall! It looks like a glaciar!

I love the sharp angles of the snow with the soft shapes of the clouds. Very nice!

Beautiful photos. I spent a wonderful time in the area about thirty years ago and have been trying to get back ever since.

Whaddya call that, "permasnow"? Gorgeous scene... rough road. Bad parking.

Great capture!

Great capture for the two themes, good perspective, makes you want to walk up the path and see what's on the other side!

Beautiful capture! I love the dynamic of the angles of the rock. I like adventures. Sounds like you do quite a bit!

I wasn't the only one who jumped in last minute with two nemes. I imagine a hobbit coming around that snowy corner

You are describing a road that I always wanted to take but never had the right equipment. I love the shadow of the snow.

I KNEW it was theme day, and still had a tough time. Good for you to have something in the archives.
