See Forever

I am visiting family in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving, so this week I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

See Forever is a popular blue run with the locals and tourists. I was facing west when I took this photo. The snowcapped mountains way in the distance are the La Sal Mountains in Utah.

I am visiting family in Oklahoma this week for Thanksgiving, so I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

My husband actually took this photo as he began to ski the black run Confidence. I don't ski the runs that are this steep. I really don't have enough confidence in my skiing ability for it!

I am visiting family in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving, so I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

Bridges is my favorite of the easy green ski runs. I love the house on the left of the bridge with its copper roof and guttering. They have a great ski-in, ski-out location!

Lunch on the Mountain

Happy Thanksgiving!! I am visiting family in Oklahoma this week so I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

One of my favorite stops for lunch is at Gorrono's, a ski-in, ski-out only restaurant located off of the runs from lift 4. I usually eat the elk chili with manchego cheese.

Wilson Peak

I am visiting family in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving, so this week I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

This is the view of Wilson Peak from Guiseppe's Restaurant at the top of chair 9. I took this in April of this year, a time when most locations in the U.S. are experiencing spring conditions.

I am visiting family in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving, so this week I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

This is two of my kids snowboarding the blue run named Sundance. The run is named after the Sundance Kid, partner to Butch Cassidy. They robbed their first bank in Telluride in 1889.

Jeep King of the Mountain

I am visiting family in Oklahoma this week for Thanksgiving, so I have posted pictures from the 2007-2008 ski season.

Olympian snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis competed and won in Telluride's Jeep King of the Mountain last year.

After hiking up to Bear Creek Falls Tuesday, I noticed the perfect reflection in the water as I came out onto Pine Street and had to take a picture of it.

Snow Melt

There is a small stream coming down from Bear Creek Falls where it gets just enough sun to melt some snow and ice for the creek to continue running.

Bear Creek Falls Frozen

The Bear Creek Falls trail is so popular that right after snowfall it has enough traffic to pack down the snow making it ready to hike and walk your dog up to the falls. Below is a photo that I posted previously from our hike in June. There will be back country skiers dropping into the canyon soon, also, then skiing all the way down the trail to town.

Lost Mittens

On the fence outside of the ski swap someone strung up a line for the lost mittens and gloves. If you lost a glove while vacationing here last winter, chances are it's right here.

No Dogs Allowed

In Telluride dogs are allowed to go into several businesses, including banks, but not into the ski swap. These dogs looked sad in their parking place.

The Skis

These skis are regarding my post yesterday, the actual skis for sale at our annual ski swap.

KOTO Radio's Annual Ski and Sport Swap

KOTO, Telluride's one and only local radio station, host the ski swap every year. It is a very well-organized place to buy your ski gear from other Telluride locals and shops held in the parking garage under the library. 20% of proceeds benefit KOTO, which is a non-profit, non-commercial radio station. Telski (Telluride Ski Resort) also has great discounts on ski and lesson passes at the swap. There is no actual swapping here, but deep discounts for all your gear needs, for sure. Tomorrow I'll show you the actual skis which were sold outside.

Welcome Snowmen

It must have been a slightly wet snow to be able to build snowmen this week. Our snow is usually a very dry powder, which is perfect for skiing.

Near Chair 8 the Penn Tram Towers have been relocated and are part of the historic district tour that were part of the Pennsylvania Mine tram line.

Snow Machines

These are a couple of the Telluride Ski Resorts's snow machines in action. You never can have too much of a snow base for skiing.

Destiny the Hedgehog

This weekend we babysat my daughter's class pet. Now we all want a hedgehog. I would consider it if we didn't already have a cat, 2 ferrets and a chinchilla.

Sorry Stocks

This is a sticker on a truck that always catches my eye when I see it. The truck has been lifted a few inches and had other modifications to it. I laughed at this because it seems to have a double meaning right now because my stock sucks right now, too.

Making Turns

I looked over at the ski runs Coonskin and Milk Run, and noticed someone had hiked up and skied down Coonskin. I guess they just couldn't wait until November 26 for the lifts to open.

2 Feet

This week's winter storm brought us 2 feet of snow and an excited ski resort. We are expecting more snow next week. Less than three weeks to ski season!!

First Big Dump of Snow

Everyone is really getting excited for the start of ski season, which opens in less than three weeks.

One More Snowless Scene

I wanted to post one more snowless photo, taken Monday of this week. We are currently having a winter storm with up to 16 inches of snow expected, so from now until at least next May or June my outdoor photos will be very snowy!!

Theme Day: Books

For a Theme Day of "Books," I immediately knew I wanted to post photos of our small and awesome book store, Between the Covers. There you can find books about our local history, trip planning, as well as classics, best sellers and new releases. They even have a nice espresso bar in the back of the store. As much as I love the big chain stores such as Borders, you just don't get the same comfy feeling as you do when visiting Between the Covers.
