The Steps of Black Bear Pass

There are three roads leading into Telluride in the summer and two of them are unpaved serious Jeep trails. Black Bear Pass is one of the unpaved roads into town.

Just saw your blog for the first time this morning and I'm thrilled! We're big-time Silverton fans and made the trek across Black Bear once....not for the faint-hearted, but BEAUTIFUL.
I will be back for more!

I'm not even sure I see a road, but I do see the beautiful view!

I recall a time back in the early 80's when I lived on Camp Bird road in the summer time, and rode a trials bike. You could rent motorcycles in Ouray at the time, and some friends came out, rented bikes, and we went over Black Bear. Casey was about 5'5" & built like a bouncer. We went over the step, and down to the first switch back, and Casey stopped his bike, got off and simply walked away from it, letting it fall to the ground. He sat on a rock, and said simply: "Never Again". :)

We did a Jeep Jamboree out of Ouray in 1999 and one of our routes took us into Telluride. I don't recall if we took Black Bear but we were definitely in very similar terrain. It was great (altho a bit motion sickness inducing). I like your composition showing the jeep with the town in the distance.
